Construction Worker Flies Confederate Flag on Job Site for “Shits and Giggles” Gets Himself Fired

A man who thought it would be funny to fly the Confederate flag on a job site to rile up onlookers for “shits and giggles’” is not laughing now that he’s out of a job. Prior to his firing, Keith Lipiec commented that he would be unbothered by the flag’s reception- without the forethought of how his employer would take it.

As Raw Story Reports:

On Monday, CBC reporter Adam Carter caught Keith Lipiec flying the controversial flag at a work site in Hamilton, Ontario, which led to Lipiec’s dismissal.

Lipiec explained his motivation, stating:  “I just wanted to do it for sh*ts and giggles — and if I piss a few people off along the way, then so be it.”

Unfortunately for the now-unemployed construction worker, his employers were not amused.

Announcing the firing of Lipiec via email, Yoke Group owner and CEO Anthony Quattrociocch stated, “I have absolutely zero tolerance for this behaviour. He will no longer be working for Yoke Group.”

Lipiec had also sympathized with provided neo-Nazis when he made light of the violence in Charlottesville and the death of 32-year-old Heather Heyer. “Yeah, some guy ran over a whole bunch of people, so be it. It happens every day,” he explained. “There’s good and there’s bad [with the flag] — same as the swastika, and the Nazis, and that flag. That was stolen from the religious people that actually believed in that symbol and everybody mistakes it for Hitler and the Nazis, and it’s not even true.’”

Do you think Lipiec’s employer did the right thing in firing him or do you think Lipiec should have had the right to fly the flag on his job site with no repercussions? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
